More than 20 years of rhinoplasty experience and research in one volume
Dr. Jae Yong Jeong of THE PLUS Plastic Surgery has published the revised second edition of the specialist rhinoplasty textbook REBUILDING NOSE.
Rhinoplasty involves more than simply raising the nasal bridge or changing the shape of the nose. It requires consideration of the nasal bones and cartilage, the septum, skin thickness and the structures supporting the nasal tip, as well as functions such as breathing.
REBUILDING NOSE systematically presents nasal anatomy and a range of surgical techniques from a medical professional’s perspective.
A revision nine years after the first edition in 2016
The first edition of REBUILDING NOSE was published in 2016. Japanese and English editions followed in 2017 and 2018, respectively, sharing rhinoplasty knowledge with medical professionals both in Korea and overseas.
The second edition was completed by reviewing and expanding the research findings and clinical experience accumulated since the first edition.
While revisiting the original edition, Dr. Jeong identified sections that needed clearer explanations and material that required updating. He prepared the second edition with the view that, just as surgery advances through ongoing review and refinement, medical textbooks should also continue to be revised and developed.
What has changed in the second edition
The revised edition includes a new chapter explaining surgical instruments and how they are used in practice.
Research published since 2016 and Dr. Jeong’s clinical experience have also been incorporated into each chapter. Difficult or complex passages have been revised for clarity, and some illustrations have been updated to make nasal structures and surgical procedures easier to understand visually.
English terms have been added alongside medical terminology previously presented mainly in Korean and Chinese characters, helping medical professionals in Korea and abroad understand the material more precisely.
Knowledge and research that support sound surgical practice
Dr. Jeong emphasizes that, in addition to surgical skills, an accurate understanding of nasal structure and function is an important foundation for sound surgical practice.
The publication of a medical textbook does not guarantee any particular surgical outcome. It can, however, provide insight into a clinician’s academic commitment to organizing their experience, reassessing established techniques and incorporating new research into patient care.
THE PLUS Plastic Surgery will continue to deepen its understanding of primary and revision rhinoplasty through ongoing research and academic activities, while carefully considering the nasal structure and function of each individual patient.
